As for Roths - I love them specifically because the people who qualify for them could dramatically change their financial futures if they took full advantage of them. Especially young, middle class people without a ton of financial knowledge. My goal is to get people started early investing in this account and maxing it out ASAP. Here are the main things I like about it:
- Tax free growth
- Can pull out contributions penalty free at anytime - so less fear around using them, and this account could double as an emergency fund if absolutely necessary (although not recommended)
- Not dependent on an employer - I like this aspect for young people especially because more and more people are relying on the gig economy, side hustles, restaurant jobs, etc.
- Can pull money out for education expenses, medical expenses, and first time home purchases
- Great tool for people on a FI journey
