Charly Stoever:

So I'm trans and I'm queer, and I'm actually

Charly Stoever:

estranged from my family, which is another

Charly Stoever:

reason why I am so gung ho about

Charly Stoever:

being financially independent, because I don't have anybody

Charly Stoever:

to really fall back on. Like, my

Charly Stoever:

dad left when I was 14, and he went back to

Charly Stoever:

Mexico, and I honestly don't know if he's alive or dead,

Charly Stoever:

which is something that's very painful for me to talk about and

Charly Stoever:

admit. Even though he was pretty emotionally abusive and

Charly Stoever:

narcissistic, it still sucks to be like, I don't

Charly Stoever:

know what happened to my dad, but I know that some of your listeners

Charly Stoever:

can probably relate to this too. And I haven't seen

Charly Stoever:

my mom in eight years. Uh, so

Charly Stoever:

I. It's like, I don't have to worry about

Charly Stoever:

my parents now, even though I will probably swoop in

Charly Stoever:

if I find out my dad's alive and needs help.

Anthony Weaver:

Welcome everybody back to another exciting show, the

Anthony Weaver:

about that Wallet podcast, where we help you build strong

Anthony Weaver:

financial habits so that you can have the

Anthony Weaver:

confidence on spending money, talking about money,

Anthony Weaver:

and enjoying your money. And I have

Anthony Weaver:

the awesome opportunity to bring on somebody that I met at

Anthony Weaver:

fincon. And if you guys ever heard of

Anthony Weaver:

fincon, it is a financial conference

Anthony Weaver:

that happens every year. But this

Anthony Weaver:

person actually brought in so much joy, and I was

Anthony Weaver:

excited to bring them on because they had so much excitement

Anthony Weaver:

recording their own episode. F and Con.

Anthony Weaver:

And what's going on, Charlie?

Charly Stoever:

Hi, Anthony. Thank you so much for having me and

Charly Stoever:

for manning the podcast booth. I'm super happy that

Charly Stoever:

you got to watch me pop Ms. Chica's cherry.

Charly Stoever:

It was her first podcast interview, and I love how you came up to us,

Charly Stoever:

and you were like, you be on my podcast since

Charly Stoever:

Charlie's popped your cherry. I was like, okay, you can pop my

Charly Stoever:

cherry, too. I need to be on about that wallet. Ah, now. So we're all just

Charly Stoever:

popping each other's cherries.

Anthony Weaver:

I know, right? It's a lot of popping going on over

Anthony Weaver:

here.

Anthony Weaver:

So one of the things that, uh, you know,

Anthony Weaver:

I was doing some research and learning a lot about your story, because

Anthony Weaver:

I didn't know who you were. I was like, okay, well, somebody's over

Anthony Weaver:

here ready to record. And that's

Anthony Weaver:

one thing I love about going to different conferences, that you

Anthony Weaver:

get to meet so many different people, so many different walks of life

Anthony Weaver:

and where they come from and, like, their journeys and

Anthony Weaver:

finance, you know?

Charly Stoever:

M. So, yeah, like, I would never have met you if it weren't

Charly Stoever:

for Fin Con. So it was really nice meeting so many people there

Charly Stoever:

and kind of meeting other people who were like my Internet friends.

Charly Stoever:

Um, and, and yeah, and just connecting in

Charly Stoever:

person with people because it can be really isolating. I've been running my

Charly Stoever:

own money coaching business for four years now,

Charly Stoever:

so it just, it doesn't, it's not the same. You have to

Charly Stoever:

meet people in person. I think fincon was a total reminder

Charly Stoever:

of that.

Anthony Weaver:

Yeah. And they always say like, the sense of

Anthony Weaver:

community is something that we

Anthony Weaver:

have to do as content creators to really make

Anthony Weaver:

it out there. And I'm not sure if I

Anthony Weaver:

totally agree, but I do think you do need

Anthony Weaver:

your tribe for like folks. They just kind

Anthony Weaver:

of do this thing the right way.

Charly Stoever:

Yeah. It's not necessary, but it sure helps me not

Charly Stoever:

feel so burnt out as an ambivert.

Charly Stoever:

I like recharging at night by myself.

Charly Stoever:

But I realized after fincon that I am a lot more

Charly Stoever:

extroverted than I thought I would be. So after

Charly Stoever:

fincon, I wasted no time like booking a we

Charly Stoever:

work to just have a co working space where I could work on my own

Charly Stoever:

shit myself. But, uh, around people.

Charly Stoever:

So yeah, it's not necessary. But depending on your personality type

Charly Stoever:

or how you get to get energy from people, do you

Charly Stoever:

get it but then need to recharge like me? I think for me personally it

Charly Stoever:

is a necessity for me to go to more conferences and be around

Charly Stoever:

other creatives and business owners in person.

Anthony Weaver:

Yeah. So what's the next one you go into?

Charly Stoever:

I know that travelcon is going to be in Tucson

Charly Stoever:

in uh, believe March

Charly Stoever:

of 2025. And I'm excited

Charly Stoever:

for that because I'm Traveler Charlie. Right. And my

Charly Stoever:

podcast is called Unicorn Millionaire and

Charly Stoever:

it's heavy on personal finance. But I've also traveled

Charly Stoever:

solo, uh, to 34 countries all over the world while

Charly Stoever:

running my business from as far away as Thailand.

Charly Stoever:

I was in Mexico for seven months and

Charly Stoever:

so I'm excited to go. Uh, just see how

Charly Stoever:

like my, my influencer ness, even though I'm a micro

Charly Stoever:

influencer, I have m less than 10k followers. But I love them. Um, they're

Charly Stoever:

loyal af and honestly, I don't need to go

Charly Stoever:

viral like my nook of the

Charly Stoever:

Internet because I don't know, this election I was not hitting that block button

Charly Stoever:

at all. I was like, these are my people. If anything I gain followers.

Charly Stoever:

But I'm excited to meet more travel creatives as well too in

Charly Stoever:

Arizona. And there must be money coaches and money nerds out

Charly Stoever:

there. Of course, of course.

Anthony Weaver:

Yeah. Because one of the things that I, uh,

Anthony Weaver:

love about your story is that you Didn't.

Anthony Weaver:

It's not like you didn't take. No, you've more.

Anthony Weaver:

More than likely took over. How come?

Anthony Weaver:

And more of a why? And like, your.

Anthony Weaver:

Your story is so curious of, you know,

Anthony Weaver:

just how does money work? And I remember

Anthony Weaver:

you're saying in one of your interviews

Anthony Weaver:

in the past, you were talking about how you

Anthony Weaver:

actually used to be a. If I'm

Anthony Weaver:

not mistaken, was it a

Anthony Weaver:

stockbroker? Yes, a stockbroker. I didn't.

Charly Stoever:

I want to say, like, finance, white men words. Yeah, that was the

Charly Stoever:

one. It was not Wolf of Wall street, y'all. I worked in

Charly Stoever:

a call center in Indianapolis sitting my ass on the phone,

Charly Stoever:

helping people reset their passwords and learning about stocks.

Anthony Weaver:

So, yeah, so talk about.

Charly Stoever:

I was making 45k. I was not rolling in it,

Charly Stoever:

but I felt like it. After doing the Peace Corps and making

Charly Stoever:

30k as a teacher, I was like, oh, I'm gonna buy a sports

Charly Stoever:

car. I did not. I was

Charly Stoever:

just making 45k. I was like.

Anthony Weaver:

But it started, ah, I love the humble story

Anthony Weaver:

is because a lot of people always

Anthony Weaver:

feel bad about getting paid a little

Anthony Weaver:

bit, but in the industry that they want to get

Anthony Weaver:

into, and I don't think you actually really wanted to get into finance, was

Anthony Weaver:

it, at that time?

Charly Stoever:

No, I wanted to teach social studies in high school.

Charly Stoever:

I was a history nerd. I loved learning about

Charly Stoever:

social studies. And I learned quickly

Charly Stoever:

in my 20s that no one wants to hire social studies teachers. Everybody

Charly Stoever:

just wants STEM and math and science to be,

Charly Stoever:

like, productive members of society. And I spent my

Charly Stoever:

20s doing the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, all the core,

Charly Stoever:

Being overworked and exploited on food stamps, on

Charly Stoever:

Medicaid. And so by the time I was in my

Charly Stoever:

late 20s, I was like, this is not sustainable. I can't

Charly Stoever:

be dog sitting and blogging and side hustling,

Charly Stoever:

uh, all the time. And that's what made me pivot

Charly Stoever:

into personal finance. I didn't even get a

Charly Stoever:

real 401k with a solid match until I

Charly Stoever:

was 29, because I just did not want future me

Charly Stoever:

to work so much about money. And I'm so happy I did that.

Charly Stoever:

Which led me to become a money coach. Once I felt

Charly Stoever:

that relief of, okay, I don't need to worry about my future self.

Charly Stoever:

They're good, which is why I do what I do every day.

Anthony Weaver:

Yeah. So how is that breaking out into your own,

Anthony Weaver:

you know, because a lot of people are wondering about

Anthony Weaver:

their current jobs and trying to take that break

Anthony Weaver:

from, you know, that 9 to 5 and really go

Anthony Weaver:

full time all in, into that passion.

Charly Stoever:

I would say start your side hustle

Charly Stoever:

while you have your job. I like to

Charly Stoever:

see your job as your sugar daddy. In the

Charly Stoever:

meantime, before you peace on out, like, don't just quit

Charly Stoever:

your job and start a business. You have to

Charly Stoever:

start your business problem solve, uh, see what kind

Charly Stoever:

of problem you offer that people want to pay you

Charly Stoever:

to solve. And once you get that consistent income,

Charly Stoever:

then quit. And uh, now I'm saying do as I

Charly Stoever:

say, not as I do. I didn't.

Anthony Weaver:

I like the disclaimer there.

Charly Stoever:

Yeah, so don't come after

Charly Stoever:

me. But in

Charly Stoever:

2020, I quit my job

Charly Stoever:

when Covid, uh, was in full effect

Charly Stoever:

in August because I was ecstatic for the stock

Charly Stoever:

market to crash when Covid hit. Even though I was only making

Charly Stoever:

45k. I probably had like a

Charly Stoever:

50k net worth to my name, but I was like

Charly Stoever:

salivating that the stock market was crashing because stocks are on

Charly Stoever:

sale. And I was like, this is fucked up that I'm

Charly Stoever:

excited. I'm not even making that much money. And

Charly Stoever:

so I finally knew what I wanted to write my

Charly Stoever:

master's degree essay on because I kind of was like, well, I should

Charly Stoever:

get a master's because this 45k crap is

Charly Stoever:

not like paying the bills and stacking my

Charly Stoever:

401k that much. So I got a full ride to an

Charly Stoever:

MBA from Brandeis and then

Charly Stoever:

I quit my job and I moved to Mexico,

Charly Stoever:

which has a much lower cost of living. And I'm a dual

Charly Stoever:

citizen. I was born in Mexico, I was undocumented, did not

Charly Stoever:

become a US citizen until I was 21. And

Charly Stoever:

so I used my stocks, my savings

Charly Stoever:

to help me make that confident decision.

Charly Stoever:

And having an apartment that was 400 bucks a month, like a

Charly Stoever:

five minute walk from the beach, definitely helped me not

Charly Stoever:

stress out so much about money, which is

Charly Stoever:

how I was able to start my business. By the

Charly Stoever:

time I ended up having my MBA a year and a half later, I

Charly Stoever:

was like, I'm just going to keep working for myself this whole

Charly Stoever:

time because I never fit in at the 9 to 5.

Anthony Weaver:

That is amazing from

Anthony Weaver:

just using your stocks. Like, who would have thought to use your

Anthony Weaver:

investments now? Because right now a lot of people

Anthony Weaver:

keep thinking like, hey, you should stock your

Anthony Weaver:

money away until you're retired. Uh, instead

Anthony Weaver:

of looking at it like, hey, you can actually utilize it while

Anthony Weaver:

you're alive and

Anthony Weaver:

well and still young enough to

Anthony Weaver:

enjoy it, to travel. Because I know you've seen the

Anthony Weaver:

memes where it's like too old couple. That's like,

Anthony Weaver:

oh, we finally able to Retire and

Anthony Weaver:

we can't even do anything right.

Charly Stoever:

We fall asleep, right?

Charly Stoever:

Yeah.

Anthony Weaver:

How was that?

Charly Stoever:

I love breaking people's brains about that. I didn't

Charly Stoever:

know that you could just like, sell stock without paying a

Charly Stoever:

penalty to fund your life. But because I worked as a

Charly Stoever:

stockbroker and I saw how many casual millionaires are

Charly Stoever:

in this country, and I saw how mostly the

Charly Stoever:

middle class or wealthy white people were moving their money

Charly Stoever:

around for just daily expenses. They would

Charly Stoever:

call us and be like, I have to drop 20 GS

Charly Stoever:

on a down payment. Let me sell some stock in my brokerage

Charly Stoever:

account. They knew exactly what to do and from which

Charly Stoever:

account. They were not liquidating their 401ks. They were not

Charly Stoever:

touching their retirement accounts. They were touching the taxable

Charly Stoever:

brokerage accounts that are basically like high yield savings

Charly Stoever:

accounts on steroids where the gains are

Charly Stoever:

a lot higher. But also, if you're not

Charly Stoever:

careful, the dips can be a lot more dramatic.

Charly Stoever:

So you can't just like go in any day and expect

Charly Stoever:

to liquidate. You have to watch what the stock market's

Charly Stoever:

doing. But that's a pattern that I noticed these rich people

Charly Stoever:

do. They were using these accounts to grow their

Charly Stoever:

money way more than they would in a high yield savings

Charly Stoever:

account. Because the high yield savings account, you're just not losing

Charly Stoever:

money as quickly to inflation. That shit's not growing your money even if

Charly Stoever:

you're making thousands of dollars in interest in a month. And

Charly Stoever:

so that's something that, that I did

Charly Stoever:

again, as somebody who never made more than 45k, I stacked

Charly Stoever:

my brokerage account so that when I realized

Charly Stoever:

my master's degree was not helping me start my business at all. The

Charly Stoever:

master's degree just helps you become, uh, a toy in the

Charly Stoever:

system even better. And use fancy words to get the job. It

Charly Stoever:

does not teach you the skills for entrepreneurship. So I hired

Charly Stoever:

my business coach, Kat Del Carmen, a Latina business coach.

Charly Stoever:

And she at the time was only charging $3,000 for

Charly Stoever:

three months of coaching. And I was like, I'm not going to take out my

Charly Stoever:

emergency fund for this. So I, uh, sold $3,000 of

Charly Stoever:

Tesla stock because I hated Elon Musk. Anyway, while I was

Charly Stoever:

chilling on the beach at like 6pm and after hours

Charly Stoever:

trading, and I just moved money around and paid

Charly Stoever:

her. And then the next month I doubled my investment and made

Charly Stoever:

$7,500 in revenue through my

Charly Stoever:

money coaching business with very minimal

Charly Stoever:

expenses as an online business owner. I didn't have employees.

Charly Stoever:

I have to pay for a building or anything. So

Charly Stoever:

that's like. And uh, my clients,

Charly Stoever:

I love showing them how little cash I have. I have

Charly Stoever:

$0 in my checking account. You have no business

Charly Stoever:

storing cash in your checking account with this crappy interest rate, even

Charly Stoever:

an ally. And I have like 2k in cash at a

Charly Stoever:

time. And my clients just like, uh, who have like

Charly Stoever:

hundreds of thousands or tens of thousands in cash. And I show

Charly Stoever:

them I only have like 2k in cash at a time because of all the

Charly Stoever:

other levers I know where to pull from. It's

Charly Stoever:

really enlightening for them to see how,

Charly Stoever:

how differently people manage their finances. As long as you

Charly Stoever:

understand why you're doing it and like your reasons.

Anthony Weaver:

Yeah. So what is it something that somebody can

Anthony Weaver:

do now that are listening and they got, uh, super excited about your

Anthony Weaver:

story to say, like, hey, where can I start as far

Anthony Weaver:

as investing? What should they do?

Charly Stoever:

Listen to, uh, this podcast, Listen

Charly Stoever:

to my podcast. Don't go on Reddit,

Charly Stoever:

don't just listen to random ass people on TikTok, because they're just going to

Charly Stoever:

tell you what you need to hear, what you want to hear, not what you

Charly Stoever:

need to hear. Right. And

Charly Stoever:

even for the month of November, I'm offering one off calls, which

Charly Stoever:

I don't usually do. If you want to do those

Charly Stoever:

annoying things that you know you need to get done, like break up with

Charly Stoever:

Wells Fargo and their crappy interest rates or dump

Charly Stoever:

bank of America and leave that toxic relationship and

Charly Stoever:

open a high yield savings account. It's

Charly Stoever:

urgent now more than ever to be on top of your finances

Charly Stoever:

before the new year even starts. So that's why I'm doing,

Charly Stoever:

I call them, um, November money makeover calls

Charly Stoever:

for just 75 minutes. I can give you a

Charly Stoever:

Queer Eye makeover on your finances

Charly Stoever:

too. And if you like what I do, you can use

Charly Stoever:

that credit to add that to my

Charly Stoever:

six month money coaching program. Because I usually work with folks for

Charly Stoever:

only six months at a time, minimum. Some of my clients have been

Charly Stoever:

working with me for over a year because there's always more and

Charly Stoever:

more to build off. So that's my advice. Stop trying to do

Charly Stoever:

it yourself and find the free tips and the hacks.

Charly Stoever:

There's so much conflicting information out there from people that don't know

Charly Stoever:

what they're doing or who might not relate to your

Charly Stoever:

experience either. And like hire

Charly Stoever:

a coach or pay somebody to hold your hand through

Charly Stoever:

it for that accountability. So you make sure you actually get

Charly Stoever:

these things done because money can be scary and it's nice to have

Charly Stoever:

somebody walk you through it.

Anthony Weaver:

Yeah. And especially if they have that, like you Said that same background,

Anthony Weaver:

that experience because. Or at least

Anthony Weaver:

can relate to something. Because there's a

Anthony Weaver:

huge disconnect if you can't even speak the same language.

Charly Stoever:

Yeah, yeah.

Anthony Weaver:

And because, you know, my target audience

Anthony Weaver:

is the sandwich generation, so they have kids and also

Anthony Weaver:

they're taking care of their parents as well. So

Anthony Weaver:

what is it, um, something that you've been

Anthony Weaver:

doing to kind of prepare

Anthony Weaver:

yourself to deal with your parents as they get

Anthony Weaver:

older?

Charly Stoever:

So I'm. I'm trans and I'm queer and I'm actually

Charly Stoever:

estranged from my family, which is another

Charly Stoever:

reason why I am so gung ho about

Charly Stoever:

being financially independent, because I don't have anybody

Charly Stoever:

to really fall back on. Like, my

Charly Stoever:

dad left when I was 14 and he went back to

Charly Stoever:

Mexico. And I honestly don't know if he's alive or dead,

Charly Stoever:

which is something that's very painful for me to talk about and

Charly Stoever:

admit. Even though he was pretty emotionally abusive and narcissistic,

Charly Stoever:

uh, it still sucks to be like, I don't know

Charly Stoever:

what happened to my dad. But I know that some of your listeners can

Charly Stoever:

probably relate to this too. And I haven't seen my

Charly Stoever:

mom in eight years. Um, so

Charly Stoever:

I. It's like I don't have to worry about

Charly Stoever:

my parents now. Even though I will probably swoop in

Charly Stoever:

if I find out my dad's alive and needs help. I don't know.

Charly Stoever:

Or if he, um, isn't alive. I don't

Charly Stoever:

know either. So I know that regardless

Charly Stoever:

of if they need my help, I'm setting myself up

Charly Stoever:

first and making sure I'm good and not just

Charly Stoever:

living in emergency mode than the scarcity mode

Charly Stoever:

anymore. So regardless of if I know I'm going to have to

Charly Stoever:

take care of somebody or not, I have to take care of myself

Charly Stoever:

first. And I also don't have kids

Charly Stoever:

because honestly, I'm still reparenting myself

Charly Stoever:

and, like, healing my own

Charly Stoever:

traumas and finding out who I am.

Charly Stoever:

At 34, I feel like my life is still barely beginning

Charly Stoever:

because I have the money to allow me to dive

Charly Stoever:

into more fulfilling things instead of just living in

Charly Stoever:

survival mode. I'm able to be like, okay, who am I

Charly Stoever:

really? I'm an artist too. I love to paint and draw. If money

Charly Stoever:

weren't a thing, I would be out in the woods in a cabin,

Charly Stoever:

painting the trees with, like,

Charly Stoever:

goats and chickens and shit, but also close enough to go to

Charly Stoever:

the gay club and Zumba class to twerk my ass

Charly Stoever:

off.

Charly Stoever:

So, um, I think regardless of your situation, you

Charly Stoever:

got to take care of yourself first. And especially if you have parents

Charly Stoever:

and kids and all these people that you got to take care of. You have to

Charly Stoever:

prioritize yourself so you're not burnt out and

Charly Stoever:

just grasping

Charly Stoever:

because that really will affect your loved ones too.

Anthony Weaver:

Yeah. And that's one of the things that I notice a

Anthony Weaver:

lot of financial, as

Anthony Weaver:

you can say, um, not influencers,

Anthony Weaver:

but people who are providing the information. They don't

Anthony Weaver:

put into consideration of the people who don't have

Anthony Weaver:

a legacy to leave on. Besides, like, you know, for

Anthony Weaver:

me, like, I'm not going to have any children either.

Anthony Weaver:

And one of the things is that from

Anthony Weaver:

my piece, this is my Baby, the

Anthony Weaver:

podcast, this is my gift to the world. It's like,

Anthony Weaver:

hey, if this is my journey, these are the people

Anthony Weaver:

that I've met and had awesome opportunities, um,

Anthony Weaver:

to kind of have this great conversation with,

Anthony Weaver:

but that's it. Like financially, I'm, uh, like

Anthony Weaver:

this. For me, you can take what

Anthony Weaver:

you want because, you know, we only live

Anthony Weaver:

once and let's enjoy it.

Charly Stoever:

But yeah, and I know some people leave their money to their pets

Charly Stoever:

too. You can leave your money to a, uh, foundation or a

Charly Stoever:

nonprofit that you care about as well. Or if you're

Charly Stoever:

like queer like me and have chosen family,

Charly Stoever:

your beneficiaries, people you leave your money to does not have to

Charly Stoever:

be blood related as well too. So there's lots

Charly Stoever:

of options to leave a legacy. It just doesn't always have to

Charly Stoever:

be your kids.

Anthony Weaver:

I, um, like that. Yes. That is so true.

Anthony Weaver:

Thank you for bringing that on.

Charly Stoever:

Of course.

Anthony Weaver:

So for you, we're gonna slide on over to

Anthony Weaver:

the third segment here, which is the

Anthony Weaver:

futures. What skills or habits do

Anthony Weaver:

you feel is going to take you to that next level?

Charly Stoever:

Me personally?

Anthony Weaver:

Yeah.

Charly Stoever:

Uh, oh my God. I just thought of fincon and

Charly Stoever:

how I absolutely crushed it

Charly Stoever:

with all my skills that I've learned as

Charly Stoever:

a business owner. You have to market yourself.

Charly Stoever:

You have to hype yourself up. You have to talk about

Charly Stoever:

yourself because you're not Pepsi with a billion dollar

Charly Stoever:

marketing team reminding people to get

Charly Stoever:

in on this. You have to celebrate

Charly Stoever:

yourself and constantly introduce yourself.

Charly Stoever:

And as a business owner, that's something that has been ingrained in me.

Charly Stoever:

Whenever I hop on my Instagram at Traveler,

Charly Stoever:

Charlie with a Y come to work along with me.

Charly Stoever:

I start every single live, even some of my stories.

Charly Stoever:

I assume that there's constantly new people

Charly Stoever:

jumping into my radar and I'm always like, I'm

Charly Stoever:

Charlie. I'm a non binary Latinx money coach helping

Charly Stoever:

LGBT bipoc. And I took those

Charly Stoever:

skills of introducing and marketing and Branding myself with my

Charly Stoever:

bright ass outfits and bright colors to fin

Charly Stoever:

con where even people would just come up to me every day and be like,

Charly Stoever:

I love what you're wearing. I have loved watching what you're wearing

Charly Stoever:

every single day. Or they've been like, I love how you

Charly Stoever:

introduce yourself when every time you grab the mic to ask a

Charly Stoever:

question, you introduce yourself. I'm watching, I'm taking

Charly Stoever:

notes. And I think that that has been a skill that

Charly Stoever:

I've developed. And something that I want to work on this year is getting

Charly Stoever:

booked and paid to speak. Um, and do

Charly Stoever:

more. Yes. Public speaking engagements.

Charly Stoever:

And I actually, I'm coordinating with the local library in

Charly Stoever:

Seattle. Um, in the Seattle area, they're

Charly Stoever:

paying me 300 bucks to do a class that I proposed

Charly Stoever:

with just over email. We didn't have like a fancy meeting or anything.

Charly Stoever:

I was just like, I want to teach people about how to financially

Charly Stoever:

prep to buy a home. And they're like, okay,

Charly Stoever:

cool. How much you charge? And I was like, I charge way more than this for the

Charly Stoever:

corporations, but for the libraries. I love

Charly Stoever:

libraries. Like, I charge. I charge $5,000

Charly Stoever:

for a one minute reel for the corporations, but for the libraries,

Charly Stoever:

Like, I love libraries. So yeah, pay me 300 bucks. That's

Charly Stoever:

fine. It's like the price of my

Charly Stoever:

one hour money makeover call. It's fine because I'm trying to

Charly Stoever:

get into the practice of public speaking and I'm looking

Charly Stoever:

into hiring a videographer who will film me

Charly Stoever:

so I can make my speaker real and actually start pitching myself.

Charly Stoever:

Because if I don't have the real to show that I speak,

Charly Stoever:

how can I pitch myself too? So that's something that I'm excited

Charly Stoever:

to currently be working on in 2025. Getting

Charly Stoever:

booked and paid to

Charly Stoever:

speak.

Anthony Weaver:

There we go. I love that. And

Anthony Weaver:

you're very, uh, I guess you could say not

Anthony Weaver:

just throwing it out there, but you throwing it out there with

Anthony Weaver:

a little bit more detail of just like, yeah, I want to speak,

Anthony Weaver:

but I want to get paid too.

Charly Stoever:

I did that last year and it did not work out. Like, you have to make

Charly Stoever:

actions like manifestations cool, but

Charly Stoever:

you got to like, take action.

Anthony Weaver:

Yes. Uh, one of your catchphrases I

Anthony Weaver:

thought was actually pretty cool, which was make

Anthony Weaver:

money. Your your

Anthony Weaver:

bitch. Yeah, there we go.

Charly Stoever:

I can catch on this podcast, right? You're like, yeah, I

Charly Stoever:

don't catch, but you can. I was like, okay, cool.

Anthony Weaver:

Because, like, I want to, uh, do a deeper dive

Anthony Weaver:

into that just before we go to the final four. Because

Anthony Weaver:

what is the whole purpose of that particular phrase,

Anthony Weaver:

where did that come from?

Charly Stoever:

Because I saw so many people when I was starting my business,

Charly Stoever:

when Covid was hitting, people were afraid to talk about money,

Charly Stoever:

but there was still such collective grief and

Charly Stoever:

fear, especially seeing people

Charly Stoever:

wipe out years of savings from their

Charly Stoever:

401ks and selling out of the wrong accounts and

Charly Stoever:

just pulling everything out of the stock market when they saw

Charly Stoever:

red because they didn't understand what was going on, when in

Charly Stoever:

reality, they could have just held for a month or two

Charly Stoever:

and their money would have doubled. And there

Charly Stoever:

was a lot of pain and grief and fear talking about money. Especially

Charly Stoever:

in the queer community. Us queers, we love

Charly Stoever:

being anti, uh, capitalist. But you also

Charly Stoever:

got to be realist. And I think that that's a big pain point

Charly Stoever:

for a lot of queer folks. We're queer. We do things

Charly Stoever:

differently. And we don't like

Charly Stoever:

hoarding wealth. We don't like the idea of billionaires. But,

Charly Stoever:

like, we also, like I keep saying, especially if you're strange from

Charly Stoever:

family, like me, as a trans person, you got to take care of

Charly Stoever:

yourself. And to do that, you need money. And so that's why

Charly Stoever:

I coined that term of let's make money your

Charly Stoever:

instead of the other way around. Because that was the vibe that

Charly Stoever:

I was getting for a lot of people in my community.

Charly Stoever:

Like, let's talk about it. Get that whip out. We

Charly Stoever:

can dominate your money and be happy to watch your

Charly Stoever:

net worth grow.

Anthony Weaver:

Yeah. Um, because when you say dominate your money, I thought of,

Anthony Weaver:

like, fin dumps, and I was like, oh, uh, that's nice.

Charly Stoever:

Yes. Mask

Charly Stoever:

doms. Non binary doms. Uh, we love it.

Charly Stoever:

I want. I need a fem dom in my life because I'm tired of telling everybody what

Charly Stoever:

to do. So, um, I'm single if you're in the Seattle

Charly Stoever:

area or where are you? Are

Charly Stoever:

you? Where are you?

Anthony Weaver:

This is Maryland. M. But I do have a lot of people that listen

Anthony Weaver:

across the United States.

Charly Stoever:

Okay, good. I love D.C. as well, so

Charly Stoever:

I don't want to do long distance. I have 10 years of that as

Charly Stoever:

a digital nomad. No,

Charly Stoever:

maybe you're Maryland. I have a hot twin in Seattle. Like,

Charly Stoever:

hit me up.

Anthony Weaver:

I mean, hey, I mean, whoever's

Anthony Weaver:

listening, they might be able to travel. Like, you know what? I like to

Anthony Weaver:

travel, too. I'm just here, Maryland, for a hot second, you

Anthony Weaver:

know.

Charly Stoever:

Come on out. I'll show you all the green

Charly Stoever:

spaces in Seattle. Be a good

Charly Stoever:

time.

Anthony Weaver:

You're killing me.

Charly Stoever:

Coming to my wedding. Just saying,

Charly Stoever:

if you find somebody for me.

Anthony Weaver:

Okay, I got you.

Anthony Weaver:

All right, you ready? For the final four questions?

Charly Stoever:

Yes.

Anthony Weaver:

All right,

Anthony Weaver:

number one, what does wealth mean

Anthony Weaver:

to you?

Charly Stoever:

Wealth means options

Charly Stoever:

and self care. Especially with the

Charly Stoever:

selection just this week, the fact that I

Charly Stoever:

help people build wealth and make money. There, bitch. I

Charly Stoever:

realize my work is more important than ever. Just this

Charly Stoever:

week, I've gotten five massages because

Charly Stoever:

I've been so stressed out and I would not have been able to do that

Charly Stoever:

if I didn't have money, if I didn't know where to

Charly Stoever:

pull the money from, uh, and make that work and

Charly Stoever:

take care of myself so that I can keep showing up for my

Charly Stoever:

community. And yeah, money has allowed

Charly Stoever:

me to also cook way less. That was a big takeaway from Fin

Charly Stoever:

con when, uh, I talked to Rachel Rogers,

Charly Stoever:

who was one of the keynote speakers. She's like, y'all need to

Charly Stoever:

outsource more because you're doing these basic tasks like the

Charly Stoever:

laundry and cleaning when you should really be showing up on

Charly Stoever:

podcasts. And, uh, I told her when I got

Charly Stoever:

coached, I was like, I feel like I should cook because I don't have kids.

Charly Stoever:

I don't have a family to take care of. I have all this time, but I'm still drained cooking.

Charly Stoever:

And she's like, outsourced. And so I bought more pre

Charly Stoever:

made meals this week than I ever have in my life. And I have seen

Charly Stoever:

the difference, um, not having to

Charly Stoever:

spend so much time cooking and just getting

Charly Stoever:

back to business, but also resting like clockwork after a long

Charly Stoever:

day. I'm like, all right, time to go get a massage. I'm not

Charly Stoever:

thinking about it as much because especially as a single person, you

Charly Stoever:

got to make all the decisions. I don't have kids and stuff, but

Charly Stoever:

I also don't have a partner that can, like, cook me dinner or tag

Charly Stoever:

team with too. So as a single person,

Charly Stoever:

money helps me make, um, less

Charly Stoever:

decisions. I can rest and be in my zone of genius.

Charly Stoever:

So I love wealth building.

Anthony Weaver:

Love it. Number two, what was your

Anthony Weaver:

worst money mistake?

Charly Stoever:

Buying so many shares of Sorrento

Charly Stoever:

Therapeutics, which was popping in

Charly Stoever:

2020 when all the bros were were

Charly Stoever:

buying it. When I was a stock broker, I was like, what is the

Charly Stoever:

Sorento? Okay, it sounds like pasta,

Charly Stoever:

but I was day trading it too, and I made

Charly Stoever:

a few hundred bucks here and there was cute, but then I held

Charly Stoever:

onto it for way too long, thinking it was going to help me

Charly Stoever:

make money forever. And, um, it went

Charly Stoever:

bankrupt. And I've lost, like, thousands of

Charly Stoever:

dollars. Last year, just alone, I made a

Charly Stoever:

$5,000 stock sale where I lost

Charly Stoever:

that money because I got greedy and held Onto it for

Charly Stoever:

way too long and I had no business investing in it. So

Charly Stoever:

even as a stockbroker, you can make mistakes. Which is why I

Charly Stoever:

share my mistakes and losses with my clients

Charly Stoever:

too. Sometimes you got to pay the cost of market tuition,

Charly Stoever:

but now I know to buy low cost index funds.

Charly Stoever:

Maybe some Apple companies I've

Charly Stoever:

actually used and heard of instead of

Charly Stoever:

Sorrento and move on and mind

Charly Stoever:

my own business and spend my time money coaching and

Charly Stoever:

doing something more fulfilling.

Anthony Weaver:

So.

Charly Stoever:

So it's okay to make mistakes.

Anthony Weaver:

Love it. Number three,

Anthony Weaver:

what book got you back into reading?

Charly Stoever:

What book got me back into reading?

Charly Stoever:

Um,

Charly Stoever:

there. It has nothing to do with money

Charly Stoever:

because when I read books, I try not to read too many books about money

Charly Stoever:

because that's like my world all day I'm in it. And

Charly Stoever:

so I'm more of like a very creative person. And I just

Charly Stoever:

read a book called World of Wonders.

Charly Stoever:

I like reading about nature too. My inner child

Charly Stoever:

loves nature. As a kid I used to go out in the

Charly Stoever:

fields and like hunt ladybugs and draw them.

Charly Stoever:

And um, that was a book that really. It's a

Charly Stoever:

good storytelling book where she'll come up with like

Charly Stoever:

an animal or a plant and tie it back to her childhood and how it was

Charly Stoever:

significant for her. And I feel like that's something

Charly Stoever:

that I could see myself doing. And I love the

Charly Stoever:

COVID art too. So that book's helped me get

Charly Stoever:

back into reading.

Anthony Weaver:

Love it. Number four,

Anthony Weaver:

what is your favorite dish to make?

Charly Stoever:

I'm like, overcooking now that

Charly Stoever:

I've been going to Trader Joe's and buying all these pre made

Charly Stoever:

meals. I know how to cook, but I don't want

Charly Stoever:

to. So I think I'm more of, um,

Charly Stoever:

yesterday I made some cauliflower

Charly Stoever:

gnocchi with some, um,

Charly Stoever:

kale and pasta.

Charly Stoever:

Um, yeah, pasta is easy to

Charly Stoever:

make. I don't know why I keep thinking of enchiladas.

Charly Stoever:

I never fucking make enchiladas. I think in theory I would

Charly Stoever:

love to make enchiladas

Charly Stoever:

because it sounds easy. We'll just go with

Charly Stoever:

that.

Anthony Weaver:

Like drizzling salsa with some tortillas shells. Yeah, yeah,

Anthony Weaver:

yeah, yeah.

Charly Stoever:

Stick it in the oven, let it cook itself.

Anthony Weaver:

Uh, the last question of the show, which is where

Anthony Weaver:

could people find out more about you?

Charly Stoever:

Yeah, come find me at, uh, Traveler. Charlie

Charly Stoever:

with a Y. I'm mostly on Instagram. I

Charly Stoever:

repurpose myself and put it on TikTok too. But find me on

Charly Stoever:

Instagram and also have a

Charly Stoever:

mailing list and a mailing list series called

Charly Stoever:

Roth Freak Fridays, where every

Charly Stoever:

Friday I drop money gems about

Charly Stoever:

retirement accounts, particular Roth 401ks

Charly Stoever:

Roth IRAs. And I have a blog called

Charly Stoever:

Unicorn Millionaire. And last but not least, my

Charly Stoever:

podcast is called the Unicorn Millionaire

Charly Stoever:

Podcast. And I just celebrating releasing

Charly Stoever:

103 episodes and 5k

Charly Stoever:

downloads. It's just. Thank you about half as much

Charly Stoever:

as you, but like, most people don't make it past six

Charly Stoever:

episodes, y'all gotta celebrate these

Charly Stoever:

wins. Um, shout out to Anthony for having over 200

Charly Stoever:

episodes released. That's a huge fucking deal.

Anthony Weaver:

Thank you. All right, well, I

Anthony Weaver:

mean, it's been a pleasure. I would love to have you on

Anthony Weaver:

to kind of find out more about your adventures and so

Anthony Weaver:

forth. And guys, if you guys are listening to this and just

Anthony Weaver:

want to have, um, have them

Anthony Weaver:

on again, let's go on and make this happen.

Anthony Weaver:

Because, yes, learn more about this

Anthony Weaver:

investment investing side of the house as well

Anthony Weaver:

as quitting a 9 to 5. This is something

Anthony Weaver:

that a lot of people would like to do. And if that's

Anthony Weaver:

you, let's talk about it.

Charly Stoever:

Yeah.

Anthony Weaver:

So, Charlie,

Anthony Weaver:

it's been a pleasure. I can't wait to catch

Anthony Weaver:

up with you again. And thank you so much for coming on the

Anthony Weaver:

show and everybody, thank you so much. We

Anthony Weaver:

out. Peace.

Charly Stoever:

Peace.

Charly Stoever:

This is so much fun.
